Since the time Avery knew what a balloon was and loved looking at things in the sky we knew we wanted to take her to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque (ABQ from here on out). Around the first of the year we decided 2010 was the year to take her. We asked our besties, Tabby and John if they'd like to join us and they agreed.
Road Trip!
I was nervous. Two 2 year old and a 5 year old smushed in a mini van with 4 adults for 8-10 hours..I wasn't sure how any of us were going to survive.
We were armed with food, DVD's (at least 15 including Mickey, Veggie Tales, Barbie & Curious George), books and emergency silly bands.
We finally got on the road around 7:30 AM our first planned stop being the Giant Cross in Groom, TX.
Have you been there? It's pretty amazing and HUGE! This was the perfect place to let the girls run around.
This is Avery's I need to go pee pee run! Okay, so really she just saw a fountain ahead and thought she could go swimming.
Perhaps this wasn't the most appropriate thing to do but it was funny. I apologize if Hannah hanging on the statue offends you.
Avery loves her some stair climbing!
It was a great place for all of us to get out and stretch our legs!
The girls did pretty good. There was some whining and fighting and overall car cabin fever but considering the amount of time we were in the car, I was proud of how they behaved! We made it to ABQ around 6 (there were several more potty breaks and perhaps a Dairy Queen stop). After a bite to eat and laying out some plans for the next day, we were ready to see some balloons!
Unfortunately, the balloons were not ready for us. More about that later!
More ABQ adventures to come!
